Join us for an artist talk with Stephanie Syjuco, whose exhibition Inherent Vice examines a pivotal period in Philippine history through press photographs from the late 1960s to 1972. Working with images from the Manila Chronicle’s former photo-morgue, Syjuco rephotographs layered piles of prints—preserving editorial marks and physical traces to highlight how fragmented and contested our collective memory can be. This restaging of the 2024 Silverlens presentation is enriched with books and Filipino music from the Filipinas Heritage Library, providing a deeper historical backdrop. Syjuco will share insights into her research process, her engagement with archives, and how these reimagined images resonate today.
