About the Event
Ayala Museum, in partnership with Crucible Gallery, unveils a new OpenSpace exhibition entitled Bonhui Uy: Works of Whimsy on June 18, 2024 featuring sculptures by Bonhui Uy, a Hawaii-based Philippine-born artist known for his whimsical but cleverly-designed sculptures, prints, and collages. Seeing potential in everyday objects and scenes, Uy’s oeuvre includes sculptures made of recycled materials, reimagined as playful human and animal figures. Configured in ingenious ways, his sculptures are deceptively modest, but precise and attentive to shape and color.
A large-scale version of his rooster sculpture will stand proudly at the street-facing entrance of Ayala Museum, while some other animal sculptures will be “released” in the Zen Garden fronting the museum’s mall entrance.
The artist will be in Manila for a talk on Saturday, June 22, 3PM at the Ayala Museum Function Room 2. Uy will recount his creative journey from architectural designer to visual artist spanning six decades.
