Ritual, Ornament, Currency: Gold in Early Asian Cultures

Anchored on the historic 3-year loan of gold objects from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to the Ayala Museum for the exhibition "Reuniting the Surigao Treasure: From the Collections of Ayala Museum and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (2024-2027)," this 2-day gathering of leading international and local scholars across diverse disciplines seeks to spark new conversations and deepen scholarship on our shared histories expressed in gold.

Convened by exhibition curator Florina Capistrano-Baker, Ph.D., the conference explores:

🟡 Related regional traditions of cultural materials

🟡 Gold’s monetary history in the Philippines

📢 BEFORE THE CONFERENCE

1. How do I attend the conference?
Reserve your slot by purchasing a corresponding ticket. Please note that slots are limited. We highly recommend purchasing tickets early.

2.  Can young children attend onsite?
The program is recommended for guests 13 years old and above. Parental guidance is advised for children aged 12 and below.

3. Can I walk in to purchase tickets on the day of the conference? Are walk-ins allowed?

Tickets may sell out in advance. There is no guarantee that there will be seats for walk-ins on the day itself. We will only accommodate walk-in guests who pre-register by October 21. We highly recommend purchasing tickets early before the conference date to ensure accommodation.

4. How would I know if my payment went through?
Please check your email. Once the payment goes through, you will receive an automatic email confirmation. 

5. Can someone else attend on my behalf? Can I transfer slots? 
Slots are non-transferable. 

6. I have dietary requirements. Can you accommodate specialized dietary requests for the conference meals?
We will try our best to accommodate dietary requirements. Please secure your slot and email research@ayalamuseum.org by October 9 at the latest for any special needs. Meals are usually labeled to guide guests according to their respective dietary restrictions.

 
🏛  ON THE DAY REMINDERS 

1. When can I use my complimentary museum admission?  
Your pass includes one-time full admission to Ayala Museum exhibitions, valid until October 25, 2026. This does not include research passes at Filipinas Heritage Library.

2.  Is the museum wheelchair accessible? Will there be designated seats for seniors and PWDs? 
Yes, the museum is accessible for guests with mobility issues. We will also reserve an area for them during the lecture. Seats will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.

3. Are there designated seats for guests?
Seats are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. We highly recommend arriving early to claim your preferred seats.

4. Are photos and videos allowed? Can I take photos during the lecture?
While you may take photos and short-form videos, we prohibit any use of flash photography during the lecture proper. Please do not record the entire conference.

5. Can I take photos with the speakers and have my books signed after the lecture?
We highly recommend that you approach our speakers after the conference program ends each day in order to facilitate the smooth program flow. 

Photos are allowed during the lecture. Flash photography and taking recordings of the entire lecture are prohibited.

6. On the day of the conference, what is the registration procedure like?

ONSITE PARTICIPATION
Day 1 registration procedure 

  •  Step 1 | Verification 
  • Proceed to the registration area at Ayala Museum and present your valid ID and email confirmation, and the staff will hand you your conference kit upon verification of your name. The kit will include a conference badge, which will serve as your admission to the exhibition galleries and to entitle you to your discount at the Museum Shop.

  • Step 2 | Museum Tour 
  • Guests may choose to tour the museum during breaks or after the lecture, within standard museum hours between 11 a.m.- 7 p.m. 
  • Taking photos and videos is allowed in the galleries. However, flash photography is prohibited in all galleries.
  • While photos are permitted, taking videos is prohibited inside the 4F gold gallery.

  • Step 3 | Conference Proper 
  • Go to the conference venue at least 10 minutes before the start of the program. Please ensure that you have registered and have your conference badge with you. The ushers will guide you towards your preferred seats. 

Please note that SEATS ARE FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED.

ONLINE PARTICIPATION
  • Step 1 | Zoom link login
    • If you purchased online participation slots, you will receive a Zoom link through the email address you provided on or before October 19, 2026.

  • Step 2 | Online login
    • Please ensure that your Zoom account is updated before October 21 to ensure smooth admission to the Zoom room.
    • We will open the Zoom room 30 minutes before the event begins. We highly recommend you log in to the Zoom room at least 15-20 minutes before the conference begins. This will give our front desk time to verify and admit registered participants.

  • Step 3 | Requests for certification
    • We will issue certificates of attendance when requested. Please email requests to research@ayalamuseum.org. We will begin to process and issue certificates one week after the conference concludes to give the registration team time to verify participant attendance for both dates.


DATA PRIVACY

All personal information provided by the participants shall be processed strictly in accordance with Ayala Foundation’s Data Privacy Policy and the Data Privacy laws, rules, and regulations.
